I sometimes think of them as the petit pois of emotional wellbeing: the little P’s of pleasure scattered through an ordinary day.

A warm drink held in both hands. Sunlight through a window. A song arriving at exactly the right moment. The smell of rain. Clean sheets. A message that makes you smile.

These moments do not solve the difficult things, and noticing them is not a demand to be grateful or positive. Pain and pleasure can exist in the same day.

Our minds are naturally alert to threat and unfinished business. Small sources of comfort can be easy to miss because they do not announce themselves with the same urgency.

Gently noticing them can help the nervous system register that the day contains more than demands. It gives pleasure a little more space to land.

What are three little P’s you can notice today?
